No ordinary travel office seems to be able to buy these tickets for me.

The Japan Rail Pass is a flatrate ticket for tourists from abroad travelling Japan by train. This ticket is valid for almost any JR train except NOZOMI trains of Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen. (Express trains between the biggest cities with less stops)
